Seguin To Dedicate New Betty Scheck Senior Center; Lasting Tribute Donated By Scheck Family To Seguin
7/23/2010 4:00:00 PM

Seguin Services is pleased to announce the dedication of The Betty Scheck Senior Center, in memory of Betty Scheck, the late wife of Richard N. Scheck and beloved mother of Rick, Mike, and Chris Scheck. The entire Scheck family, Rich and Judy, Rick and Megan, Mike and Kate, and Chris Scheck donated Rascal's Restaurant this past September to Seguin Services to serve as a lasting tribute to Betty Scheck.

Mr. and Mrs. Scheck were married for 29 years and lived in North Riverside, where Mr. Scheck was the dynamic longstanding mayor. The Schecks have always felt that they should give back to the community and Mrs. Scheck held a deep concern for seniors and the issues that their families face. Mrs. Scheck had cared for Mr. Scheck's mother who had Alzheimer's for several years before her mother-in-law's death. Therefore, Mrs. Scheck realized the many concerns that individuals must face as their relatives grow older. The late Betty Scheck lost her life to cancer in 1997. Mrs. Scheck was very active in the North Riverside community. Her positive attitude and involvement in the crusade against cancer as a volunteer with the American Cancer Society touched many lives. Her family honors her spirit and her commitment to finding a cure for this disease each year with the Betty Scheck Shuffle.

As part of the formal dedication, a reception will be held at the Betty Scheck Senior Center located at 1136 N. Maple in La Grange Park. The Center opened May 10, 2010 and currently serves 45 seniors with developmental disabilities and other special needs. Seguin will recognize the Scheck family for their donation of the facility and commitment to individuals with developmental disabilities and other special needs. This was the largest single donation to Seguin in its history, valued at $1.62 million. "As our nation faces difficult economic times, it is wonderful to see that philanthropy is still alive and well in the heartland of America", stated John Voit, President and CEO of Seguin Services. Therefore, with true gratitude, we thank our long time friends, the Scheck Family.
