Cicero Applauded for Strong Economic Performance, Outlook

Taxpayers across Illinois continue to endure ever-increasing financial burdens, but the Town of Cicero’s economic outlook continues to receive accolades from various major financial institutions and associations. Recently, this was seen when Standard & Poor’s reaffirmed the Town’s A+ rating and one of the top financial associations in North America awarded three prestigious awards to the Town.

New Memorial Honoring Pearl Harbor, Cicero Hero, Unveiled

During the March 11 board meeting, Town officials unveiled the new memorial honoring military veterans who served during the Pearl Harbor Attacks on December 7, 1941. This includes Cicero resident and Navy Chief Joseph Philips Steffan, who died while serving on the USS Arizona.

Disability Services Shifts Focus to Highlighting Resources Along With Celebration

Changing course from previous years, the Office of People with Disabilities hosted the People with Disabilities Resource Fair on March 8 to kick off Disability Awareness Month. The event, hosted at the Community Center, highlighted the variety of services and programs available to people with disabilities. In prior years, Cicero recognized those with disabilities by hosting a small ceremony to kick off the awareness, according to Ismael Vargas, emcee for the resource fair.

2014-2015 Vehicle Stickers to Honor Parent Patrol, Crossing Guards

When Cicero residents purchase their vehicle stickers this year they may notice the new design recently unveiled. This year’s vehicle stickers, required for every automobile in the Town, will honor the Parent Patrol and Crossing Guards who help keep Cicero’s school children safe.

With JIP Revived, Graduation is Around the Corner

After a long hiatus, Town President Larry Dominick decided it was time to revive the Juvenile Improvement Program under a new direction. Under the guidance of new leadership, and a revamped protocol, the JIP program is beginning to thrive as students are ready to graduate this spring.
