Thousands Hit the Streets for Cicero’s Annual Cinco de Mayo Festival

Cinco de Mayo in Cicero.

The town’s annual festival has become a cherished tradition in the town, and has come to be recognized as one of the Chicagoland — and the nation’s — leading festivals of it’s kind.  And 2012 was no different.

Thousands upon thousands of fun-seekers from Cicero and the surrounding area turned out throughout the weekend of May 6th-8th at 34th & Laramie.  The annual festival and carnival is sponsored by Cicero Town President Larry Dominick, and was presented this year along with Comcast, and numerous other co-sponsors.

Festival-goers had the opportunity to enjoy live performances of traditional Mexican music from local and internationally renown artists, savor a wide array of traditional Mexican fare, as well as enjoy carnival rides and an endless number of family activities including clowns, folk ballet, contests, games and much more.

The festival again featured an event that has become a staple of the annual celebration and representative of the best in local athletic competition.  Each year, local soccer teams compete for the coveted Larry Dominick Presidents Cup trophy.  The Cup was captured this year by the Chicago Spiders.  Town Trustees Larry Banks and Victor Garcia were on hand to present the trophy and congratulate the winners.

Cicero Town President Larry Dominick would like to thank all the local business and media sponsors of the this year’s festival, as well as extend a special thank you to Frank Aguilar and the Cicero Mexican Cultural Committee for their diligent work in pulling the festival together.
