Cicero Hosts “Day of Prayer” to Focus on the Future of New Cicero

The Town of Cicero hosted the inaugural Cicero Day of Prayer on Tuesday, July 10th, at the Cicero Community Park.

They Day of Prayer, similar to the National Day of Prayer proclaimed every year by the President of the United States, brought together local elected officials with local religious leaders and people of faith for a day of celebration, prayer, and reflection.  The Day of Prayer featured live music and other live entertainment for those gathered at Cicero Community Park.

“Cicero is home to a rich and diverse faith community,” said Cicero Town President Larry Dominick.  “The Cicero Day of Prayer gives us an opportunity to join together with people from the New Cicero and, in accordance with our faith tradition, give thanks for the many blessings we have, and pray for guidance, wisdom, and restoration of unity and peace in the Town of Cicero.”

The Cicero Day of Prayer was held in conjunction with the Cicero Clergy Committee.  The Cicero Clergy Committee was formed in February by local pastors and faith leaders along with the Cicero Town Board.  The group meets once a month with Cicero Town Officials to encourage an open dialogue between Cicero’s faith community and Town government.  Each month, the Cicero Clergy Committee has the opportunity to meet with a different Town Department  to discuss the most pressing issues facing the town.  Recently, the committee has seen presentations from the Cicero Town Collector Fran Reitz office on local parking issues, and from Deputy Superintendent Jerry Chlada, Jr., of the Town’s Gang Crimes Tactical Unit on the Town’s anti-gang efforts and related issues, such as graffiti.

“We’re focused on working together in the New Cicero,” said President Dominick.  “And the Cicero Clergy Committee is just another way we are bringing people together to build a better community.”

Dominick thanked Cicero Town Collector Fran Reitz who serves as the Town Board’s Liaison to the Cicero Clergy Committee, as well as Ismael Vargas who, along with Fran was instrumental in the organization of the Cicero Clergy Committee and the Cicero Day of Prayer.
