Cicero Town Clerk, Maria Punzo-Arias, has been serving the residents of the Town of Cicero for over 16 years.

The Town Clerk is not only a long serving town official but a Cicero resident of over 32 years. Born in Mexico City, Maria attended Cicero elementary school and graduated from J. Sterling  Morton East High School in 1986. She is currently pursuing her bachelor’s degree in social science from Ashford University.

Her tenure serving the residents of Cicero began in 1995 working as a cashier/clerk in Cicero’s Water Department. In 2000, she was appointed the Annex Director to the Town of Cicero. In 2003, she was appointed to fill a vacancy on the Town of Cicero Board of Trustees. Maria’s continuous work as a Town Trustee received the support of the Cicero residents whom then re-elected her in both the 2005 and 2009 town elections.

In June 2011, Town President Larry Dominick appointed her to the office of Town Clerk following the retirement of former Town Clerk Marylin Colpo. Maria became the first Latina in the Town of Cicero’s history to hold the office of Town Clerk.

In addition to Maria’s service to the residents of Cicero, she has also volunteered her time for international humanitarian causes. In 2008, she visited the country of Ecuador and volunteered for the organization Causes for Change International.

Maria Punzo-Arias has been happily married to Jose Arias for more than 23 years.

She is the proud mother of three children: Jose Jr., Carolyn, and Eduardo, and a proud grandmother of one, Giomar.
