| Dominick, Town Board Recognize Fire Inspector Ron Opalecky for Winning the "Harry P. Schaefer Fire Investigator of the Year" Award |
The Cicero Town Board officially recognized Cicero Fire Inspector Ron Opalecky at their regular board meeting on June 22nd on his recent honor as "Harry P. Schaefer Fire Investigator of the Year", as awarded by the state's Fire Investigators Strike Force.
The "Fire Investigator of the Year" award was created in honor of Harry P. Schaefer, a long-time and respected investigator with the Illinois State Fire Marshal's office, in 2002. The "Fire Investigator of the Year" program was established in an effort to recognize one fire investigator a year that has made a special contribution to further the investigation of fire causation and/or the fight against arson. Each year in May, the Committee reviews nomination applications and makes a selection for the award.
Congratulations to Inspector Opalecky on this great honor.
Town of Cicero Resolution Honoring Ron Opalecky
WHEREAS Ron Opalecky is the Deputy Fire Marshal for the Town of Cicero Fire Department. Born and raised in Cicero, Ron Opalecky is a proud graduate of Lincoln Elementary School, Morton East High school and Morton College
WHEREAS Ron Opalecky joined the Cicero Fire Department in 1987 and has participated in and coordinated Fire Department responses to fires including, most recently, the tragic arson fire that occurred on Valentine's Day that took the lives of seven people ages 3 days to 21 years
WHEREAS the Fire Investigators Strike Force was founded in 1981 in coordination of the Illinois Advisory Committee on Arson Prevention and Investigators from the Fire Departments of the City of Des Plaines the Village of Mount Prospect to provide on-going training for fire investigators and to establish a forum through which new ideas and strategies to fight fires are shared
WHEREAS in 2002, the Fire Investigators Strike Force established the "Fire Investigator of the Year Award" in honor of Harry P. Schaefer, a long time and respected investigator with the Illinois Fire Marshal's Office. The Award is presented annually to one Fire Fighter who has displayed the highest level of professionalism, performed his duties with great honor and distinction and who has dedicated himself to the fight against arson
AND WHEREAS this year, Deputy Fire Marshal for the Town of Cicero Ron Opalecky was recognized as the Fire Investigator of the Year by the Fire Investigators Strike Force, and was recognized at ceremonies at Rosemont recently before more than 190 of the region's top firefighters
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that Town President Larry Dominick and the Board of the Town of Cicero applaud Deputy Fire Marshal Ron Opalecky for this great achievement and extend their congratulations to him and his wife Joan, his children, Michael, Matthew and Jennifer and to his parents, long time Cicero residents Lou and Juanita, who are both 85 and 83 years young respectively.
