Saplings distributed to local students through Town of Cicero, MWRD and District 99 program
For the first time ever our beautiful Town of Cicero along with District 99 and the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District gave away 99 tress for free! All this in effort to help you our residents prevent future flood damage.
“The whole goal is to improve our tree canopy in our community. We’re working in partnership with the Town of Cicero, thank you President Dominick and the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District for this event,” said District 99 Grant Director Dr. Anthony Grazzini.
“This is an opportunity to get kids involved to get families involved to bring trees and to put tress on parkways is something we are excited about”.
Students were excited to learn about different oak trees and finally choosing the one they thought would be best once planted at their home.
“These trees are very important in our community in order for us to prevent the flooding,” said Town Trustee Blanca Vargas.
“I think it’s very important for us to start teaching at an early age because trees provide an important resource,” said Town Clerk Maria Punzo-Arias.
The baby trees distributed today will take a couple years to grow. Once the trees do grow each oak tree is capable of absorbing 2,800 gallons of rainfall each year.

Plantitas distribuidas a estudiantes locales a través del programa del Municipio de Cicero, MWRD y el Distrito 99
Los estudiantes del Distrito 99 pudieron elegir qué árbol gratuito llevar a casa. Se animó a los residentes de Cicero a pasar por la Escuela Secundaria Unity el jueves 28 de septiembre de 3 a 6 pm para recoger su plántula de roble gratuita.
¡Por primera vez en nuestra hermosa Ciudad de Cicero, junto con el Distrito 99 y el Distrito Metropolitano de Reclamación de Aguas, regalamos 99 árboles de forma gratuita! Todo esto en un esfuerzo por ayudar a nuestros residentes a prevenir futuros daños por inundaciones.
“El objetivo principal es mejorar nuestra cubierta arbórea en nuestra comunidad. Estamos trabajando en colaboración con la Ciudad de Cicero. Gracias al Presidente Dominick y al Distrito Metropolitano de Reclamación de Aguas por este evento”, dijo el Director de Subvenciones del Distrito 99, el Dr. Anthony Grazzini.
“Esta es una oportunidad para involucrar a los niños, a las familias, y llevar árboles a las aceras es algo que nos entusiasma”.
El Municipio de Cicero, el MWRD y el Distrito 99 distribuyeron plántulas de árboles a los estudiantes.
Los estudiantes estaban emocionados de aprender sobre diferentes tipos de robles y finalmente elegir el que creían que sería el mejor una vez plantado en su hogar.
“Estos árboles son muy importantes en nuestra comunidad para prevenir inundaciones”, dijo la Síndica Municipal Blanca Vargas.
“Creo que es muy importante comenzar a enseñar desde una edad temprana porque los árboles proporcionan un recurso importante”, dijo la Secretaria Municipal Maria Punzo-Arias.
Las plántulas de árboles bebé distribuidas hoy tardarán unos años en crecer. Una vez que los árboles crezcan, cada roble es capaz de absorber 2,800 galones de lluvia cada año.
