Senior Center hosts festival for Cicero and officials

The Town of Cicero Senior Center organized the first annual “Senior Festival” for the Town’s seniors which was held at the newly reorganized and revitalized Safety Park at 5444 W. 34th Street on Friday Sept. 9.

The festival brought together the Town’s many departments which showcased their services to the town’s senior community.

“In the last couple of years, we have undergone several unpredictable and challenges and circumstances. And here we are now learning to see things differently, learning to adopt, and hopefully to really cherish the good memories and moments we have the opportunity to come across,” Senior Director Diana Dominick told the gathering, thanking the staff and volunteers for putting the event together.

“I hope this to be a successful new beginning to a wonderful, annual event where we can take the time away from the stresses and anxieties of our lives to enjoy the good instead. … A Special thanks to Town President Larry Dominick who supports and encourages us to continue finding new ways to celebrate the seniors in our community.”

Mrs. Dominick introduced a special guest at the event, Peruvian Consul General Franklin Rojas and his wife Luisa Rojas who praised the Town of Cicero for the extensive programs and services it offers that to seniors.

“I want to thank Diana for this invitation. This is the first time I have been in Cicero and I am quite impressed with all that they have done here, especially for the senior aged people who represents a lot of wisdom and knowledge for all of us,” Consul General Rojas said.

“I congratulate the Town Hall for organizing this event.”

Cicero Clerk Maria Punzo-Arias applauded Mrs. Dominick for the effort, saying, “I think Diana Dominick has been doing a great job. This is the first senior festival being held here at Safety Park. For many years, this park needed a little bit of TLC and under Diana’s leadership and her husband Larry Dominick, and the volunteers, this park is slowly coming alive again. What a great way to use this park not only for the children but for the seniors.”

Cicero Collector Fran Reitz called it a “wonderful turnout to a great event,” adding, “Safety Town is a great venue and location to have this festival. We have never had anything like this where all the departments are participating. The seniors can walk around, eat, visit the departments and get information. They can listen to the music and more. ”

Cicero Assessor Emilio Cundari praised the event saying, “Seniors are a very important part of our community. It is a great day, great event for our seniors.”

Cundari outlined many of the upcoming events the Town hosts including the celebration of Mexican Independence and the Houby Festival and parade which will be held in October.

Cicero Trustee Blanca Vargas added, “It is very important to take care of our elderly because they need help all the time, no matter how minor it is, it is something they need and we are glad to help.”

Cook County Commissioner Frank Aguilar called the Senior Festival a “fantastic success” honoring residents who have dedicated their lives to make Cicero one of the best communities in the nation.

Mrs. Dominick said the Senior Festival will be an annual event and will continue to grow in the future.

El ‘Centro para Adultos Mayores de Cicero” organiza un entretenido festival para el municipio y sus funcionarios

El “Centro para los Adultos Mayores de Cicero” organizó el pasado viernes 9 de Septiembre su primer evento “Senior Festival”, efectuado en el recientemente renovado y reorganizado parque ‘Safety Park’ del 5444 W. 34th Street.

El festival reunió a muchos representantes de los departamentos municipales, quienes exhibieron sus servicios para nuestros adultos mayores.

“En los último dos años, hemos pasado por circunstancias desafiamtes e impredecibles. Pero aquí estamos ahora, aprendiendo para ver las cosas de forma diferente y con suerte, poder apreciar los buenos recuerdos y cada momento en nuestras vidas,” dijo a los presentes la Directora del “Centro para los Adultos Mayores de Cicero” Diana Dominick, quien además agradeció a su personal y a los voluntaries por organizar el festival.

“Espero que este sea un nuevo comienzo. El inicio de un maravilloso evento, de un festival anual en donde podremos tomarnos un momento para estar lejos de las tensiones y de las ansiedades de nuestro vidas diarias; para disfrutar de lo bueno que existe … envío un agradecimiento muy especial al Presidente de Cicero Larry Dominick, cuyo apoyo nos anima a seguir encontrando nuevas formas de celebrar a los adultos mayores de nuestra comunidad”.

La Sra. Dominick presentó a dos invitados especiales en el evento, el Cónsul del Perú General Franklin Rojas y su esposa Luisa Rojas. Ambos elogiaron al municipio de Cicero por los amplios programas y los servicios que ofrece a sus adultos mayores.

“Quiero agradecer a Diana por la invitación” dijo el Cónsul General Rojas. “Esta es la primera vez que estoy en Cicero y estamos muy impresionados con todo lo que han hecho aquí, especialmente para las personas mayores que representan mucha sabiduría y mucho conocimiento para todos nosotros”, agregó el funcionario diplomático.

“Felicito al Ayuntamiento por organizar este evento”

La Secretaria municipal de Cicero María Punzo-Arias felicitó a la Sra. Dominick por el esfuerzo, diciendo: “Creo que Diana Dominick ha estado haciendo un gran trabajo. Este es el primer festival para personas mayores que se lleva a cabo aquí en ‘Safety Park’”.

“Durante muchos años, este parque necesitaba un poco de cuidado yde una atencion especial. Creo que bajo el liderazgo de Diana y de su esposo Larry Dominick, además de los voluntarios, este parque, lentamente este parque está volviendo a la vida”.

¡Qué gran manera de usar este parque, no solo para los niños sino también para los personas mayores,” agregó Punzo-Arias,

Por su parte, la Recolectora municipal de Cicero, Fran Reitz, calificó al festival como una “maravillosa participación en un gran evento” agregando que “el parque ‘Safety Town’ es un buen lugar y una gran ubicación para organizarlo. Nunca habiamos tenido algo como esto. Un lugar en donde todos los departamentos están participando. En donde los adultos mayores puedan pasear, comer, visitar los departamentos y obtener información. Pueden escuchar la música y mucho más.”

El Asesor de Cicero, Emilio Cundari, también elogió el evento diciendo que: “Los adultos mayores son una parte muy importante dentro de nuestra comunidad. Es realmente un gran día, es un gran acontecimiento para todos nuestros adultos mayores”.

Asi mismo, Cundari describió muchos de los eventos patrocinados por la ciudad, incluidas la celebración de la Independencia de México y el próximo Festival y ya tradicional desfile ‘Houby Day Parade’, que se llevará a cabo en octubre entrante.

Blanca Vargas, miembro de la “Junta de Síndicos de Cicero” agregó que: “Es muy importante cuidar a nuestros adultos mayores porque necesitan nuestra colaboración todo el tiempo, por más pequeña que sea. Es algo que ellos requiren y que les hace falta. “Nosotros estamos muy encantados de poder encontrar todas las forma de ayudar.”

El comisionado del condado de Cook, Frank Aguilar, calificó el Festival para personas mayores como un “éxito fantástico” en honor a los residentes que han dedicado sus vidas para hacer de Cicero una de las mejores comunidades de la nación.

Por su parte, la Sra. Dominick enfatizó que el “Senior Festival” será un acontecimiento anual y que seguirá creciendo en el futuro.
